According to the Illinois Real Estate License Act:

bulletto obtain a real estate Salesperson License, an individual is required to:

- complete a state approved 45-hour Real Estate Transactions course (available from Information Professionals, Inc.)

AND

- be at least 21 years of age and have a high school degree or a GED (no college is required)

OR

- be at least 18-20 years of age and have 2 years of college  and complete the 45-hour Real Estate Transactions course

OR

 

bulletto obtain a real estate Broker License, an individual is required to:

- complete 75 additional hours of state approved real estate courses (available from Information Professionals, Inc.)

OR

- be a currently licensed attorney registered to practice law before the Illinois Supreme Court

Continuing Education Requirements

Individuals holding a valid real estate salesperson or broker license are required to complete 12 hours of state approved continuing education in the 2 years preceding their license renewal. Brokers must renew their license by April 30th of the even numbered years, and salespersons must renew their license by April 30th of the odd numbered years.

Attorneys are exempt from continuing ed. 

The 12 hours must be taken in the 2 years preceding each renewal period. No carry-over is allowed of extra hours from previous periods.

The 12 hours consist of mandatory courses 3 hours each called Core A and a Core B (includes sections on agency, fair housing, license law and escrow) while the other 6 hours may be in elective areas. All courses must be state approved and given by state approved CE providers and instructors. Information Professionals, Inc. is a state approved CE provider.
