Who administers the state of Illinois real estate exam?

The state exam is administered by Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP). They administer the test at 12 sites throughout Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They have a website at www.goAMP.com

Many years ago, I had a real estate license in another state. How will it affect my taking the real estate exam in Illinois?

You will be required to have completed a Certification by Licensing Agency/Board form by the state(s) where you currently hold or have previously held real estate licenses. Broker candidates should complete the form and submit it to AMP with their registration materials. Salesperson candidates may take the exam, but must have the form completed before applying for a license. To avoid a delay in applying for a license a salesperson would be wise to fill out the form and send it off to the other state’s licensing board before sitting for the exam. The certification basically states that your license was (is) in good standing, was never disciplined or revoked, and that there are no disciplinary procedures pending.

I took the Real Estate Transactions (RET) course over 2 years ago. Am I still eligible to sit for the state exam?

Yes. If you successfully completed the RET course within the past 3 years you may sit for the exam. You will need a copy of your Uniform Real Estate Transcript when you apply for the exam. Be sure to check the date on the transcript to make sure it is dated within the three years. You might also seriously consider whether you have retained enough information to pass the exam. You might want to attend a review course.

How many times can I take the state exam?

The state test has two sections; a general section and an Illinois specific section. You must pass each section with a minimum grade of 75%. If you fail the exam you may retake the exam 2 more times. If you fail only one portion of the exam (the general or the Illinois specific section), you need retake only the portion you failed. If you fail any portion of the exam 3 times, you must retake the hours required to sit for the exam (a salesperson candidate must complete the 45 hour class and a broker candidate must complete the 75 hours of classes). After successful completion of theses class hours, you may sit for the state exam 3 more times. The fourth attempt will be treated as a first attempt and you will be required to pass both sections of the exam.

The general and the Illinois specific questions on the test are mixed.
