What must I do to get a broker's license? A broker candidate will need to show completion of 120 hours of approved course work. The required 120 hours include the 45 hour Real Estate Transactions course that was required to obtain your salesperson license. You need an additional 75 hours of courses approved specifically for broker candidates. Broker candidates applying for the exam under this provision may simply call 800-345-6559 to schedule their exam. Not any longer. On June 25, 2004 Senate Bill 2887 was passed. What was previously called the "Category B" provision was removed. Today a Bachelor or a Masters in the aforementioned areas will get you no special treatment. Everyone except for attorneys will have to sit for the required number of hours (see the previous question and if you are an attorney see the following question). I'm an Illinois attorney. Can I skip the salesperson exam and go directly to the broker exam? Yes. Illinois attorneys are not required to meet the education requirements and may sit for the broker's exam. Attorneys MUST submit the registration form found on page 14 in the Candidate Handbook along with a photocopy of their current Illinois attorney registration pocket card and certificate to AMP at (or fax to number below): Illinois Real Estate Examination |
